Seattle Comedy
Comedy is really not like any other art form in that it's very specialized and varied in its content, but generic in its title. " -Joe Rogan Although most forms of comedy are enjoyed by the masses, other forms cater to a select audience. During troubled times such as these, we rarely have anything to laugh, let alone smile about. For most of us that cursory smile or that spontaneous laugh is always welcome. Locals of Seattle and tourists who visit the city would not regret the abundance of laughter inducing options available. Even though the weather may be dreary in the 'City in the Clouds' it is never in want of laughter.
There are a number of recognized and well patronized comedy clubs, theatres, and individual and group acts in Seattle. The Laughs Comedy Club as it is aptly known is a renowned club on the East Side of Seattle. This spacious club features some of the country's top comedians and also provides a stage for those up and coming comedians to launch their 'comic' careers. One of its most noted features is its seating arrangement that allows an uninterrupted view of the stage - thus value for money. Comedy acts featured at the club include, Doug Stanhope, Anjehal Johnson, and probably one of the most awaited comedy programs in the city, The Boston Comedy Festival. With reasonably priced food, a clear view of the stage and a belly full of laughter, what more can any audience ask for? The Comedy Underground in Seattle and Tacoma is another comedy club held in high esteem. It features reputed comedians 7 days a week and has a number of rib tickling options.
Situated in Seattle's University district, the Giggles Comedy Club goes by the saying - 'no gimmicks, just great stand up comedy shows'. Indeed so. With acts such as Jeff Dye, Jimmie JJ Walker, and Harrold Gomez, most shows at the Giggles Comedy Club are a sellout. Laughter and charity go hand in hand, for The Giggles Comedy Club is hosting the upcoming charity show for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. If the art of improvisation is your cup of tea, Seattle's Unexpected Productions (UP) is to be thoroughly enjoyed. Unexpected Productions is a group passionate about promoting improvisation and have competed in the famous improvisational contest Seattle Comedy 'TheatreSports'. With over 25 years of experience performing and touring Australia, Canada, Germany New Zealand and Netherlands, UP offer impromptu comedy for all ages. While the group consists of noted actors, adding to the repertoire are Hollywood comedians such as Ryan Stiles, Ellie Harvie and Colin Mochrie, to name a few.
Adding an enchanting twist to comedy is The Magic and Comedy of Bruce Meyers. These shows consist of magicians who specifically perform at children's birthday parties. They mix comedy with magic and keep their 'little' audiences enthralled and asking for more. Awarded the prestigious title of 'Merlin' in The International Brotherhood of Magicians, Bruce Meyers is probably the most celebrated magic and comedy act in the whole of the Pacific Northwest. Alternately Seattle features miscellaneous comedy acts throughout the year at different venues. Some of those featured acts are Daniel Tosh, Sesame Street Live- Elmo's Green Thumb, and Comedy Grams-a singing telegram service showcasing Big Foot.
Thus, one might rely on comedy for various reasons, but whatever your want may be Seattle is sure to entertain you with lots of giggles and gut-wrenching laughter. After enjoying Seattle's options for comedy no one can dispute the fact that laughter is indeed the best medicine.
